The Organising Committee has formalised fundamental objectives for its work. These aim not only to ensure that the competitions
take place correctly, they also intend to use the sporting event as a springboard to develop the area in terms of
structures and tourism as well as the social and economic aspects.
These objectives can be briefl y summarised in the following points:
• To promote Italy and the area in question;
• To promote sports and the culture of sport, especially Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding
by celebrating a real snow and mountain “festival”;
• To promote a new model of sustainable development for the mountain area in order to link the re-launch of the socialeconomic
fabric with the respect and enhancement of the area’s natural resources;
• To re-launch the image of Valtellina in order to put Valtellina on the international market again with a competitive profi
le compared with the most popular international tourist resorts;
• To strengthen and maximise the entire area’s potential with a substantial heritage for the future. This primarily entails
structures and infrastructures that will be created specifi cally for the event and which are destined to remain as a heritage
for the entire population;
• The Organising Committee for the Grand Finals is working in parallel to the event to set up a charity/humanitarian
initiative which will involve the whole of the Province of Sondrio.
